5 Nights / 6 Days
Mumbai – Tokyo
Arrive this morning at Narita International Airport. From the airport take a private coach to downtown Tokyo. Before lunch, visit Zozoji temple and the nearby Tokyo Tower. Of note at Zojoji is that Sangedatsumon, a gate which dates to 1622. Nearby stands Tokyo tower, though certainly not the tallest building in Tokyo, it offers some of the best views of downtown. After visiting the tower, procced for lunch and then head to Akihabara known as much for its electronic stores as it is manga shops. Take a rest at the hotel late this afternoon before heading out this evening(L,D)
After breakfast at hotel, proceed for a full day of Tokyo sightseeing. Experience first-hand the efficiency and coordination of Tokyo’s incredible transportation today by taking coach tour to the Asakusa area to visit a Tokyo staple–Sensoji Temple. Also known as “Asakusa Kannon” temple, Sensoji has been in continuous existence for nearly 1,400 years. Dedicated to the Bodhisattva Kannon, this temple has been a popular site for worship since its inception. Not far from the temple is Tokyo’s Ueno Park, a popular spot for city dweller in search of a bit of nature and fun. Stroll through the park here and visit the Tokyo National Museum located inside. In the afternoon proceed for the Imperial Palace of Tokyo. The palace is built over the former site of Edo castle, from where the Tokugawa Shogun ruled Japan during the Edo period. After visiting here, head for a much more modern construction at the Tokyo Skytree. This massive tower is the tallest building in Japan standing at 634 meters. Enjoy dinner this evening before returning to the hotel.(B,L,D)
Tokyo – Mt. Fuji –Osaka
Mt. Fuji attracts thousands, if not millions of visitors every year. They flock to the mountain not only for its beauty but also for the many hot springs surrounding it. Hakone, hardly two hours away from Tokyo by rail, is a popular spot to visit as it affords excellent views of the mountain on clear days (because it is an ultra-prominent peak, Mt. Fuji is often cloaked in clouds). From Tokyo this morning, stop here and enjoy a cruise along Hakone’s Lake Ashi. Later, take the Hakone ropeway for a chance at a good view of Mt. Fuji, as well as the countryside around Hakone. After visiting here, head to Odawara to board the “Bullet Train” to Osaka. Not only are these machines some of the fastest trains in the world, traveling at a maximum of 285km on some sections of track, but they are also some of the most frequent-in some cases leaving the station once every two minutes. Arrive this afternoon in Osaka. Founded more than 1400 years ago, Osaka has continuously served in its role as Japan’s most active trading hub. But more than just a place of business, Osaka is a center of culture that can only be described as Kansai.(B,L,D)
Hiroshima needs no introduction—its name has been immortalized since 6 August 1945 and is known the world apart. Yet from the ruins of the atomic bomb, the city has reinvented itself and grown into a thriving metropolis. While perhaps quieter than its counterparts, the city is nonetheless lively. Not far to its south lies Miyajima, famous for its Torii Gate and exceptionally beautiful autumn leaves.Start from the hotel today and go eastward by Shinkansen to Hiroshima station. Take one of the city’s many quaint streetcars to the Atomic Bomb Dome. This western-style building was the closest structure to the blasts’ epicenter to survive, and stands as a monument to the immense destructive power of the bomb. Nearby is the Hiroshima Peace Park. Return to Osaka later this evening before dinner.(B,L,D
Start the day at Kyoto’s Kinkaku-ji, otherwise known as the Golden Pavilion. Though quite busy during the year, it still makes for a beautiful sight and a great photograph.Head to eastern Kyoto to Kiyomizu Dera which translates to Temple of the Pure Water, so named for the Otawa spring. It is thought that water here can offer special benefits to those who imbibe, such as long life, success in love, or to do well in school. Afterward visit the preserved districts of Ninen-zaka and Sannen-zaka. Here one can still find the old style Kyoto with streets lined with machiya—old style houses from the Edo period. Return this evening to Osaka.(B,L,D)
Begin with a visit to the Todai-ji. Inside this temple sits one of the largest Buddha statues in the world, housed in an equally massive Daibutsuen, the largest wooden structure in the world. Beyond temples and emperors, Nara also has something else to set it apart from most other cities: a thriving population of deer amongst the temples. Considered sacred here, the deer are protected. The animals are quite calm and relaxed around people and can be hand fed special deer crackers sold on the streets. Be careful though, as some animals are not so polite when taking, and they may not only be interested in crackers (so keep all food sealed and out of sight!) Later, return to Osaka. This evening take some time for yourself to walk or shop around the city and enjoy its relaxed atmosphere.(B.L,D)
Checkout early this morning and get onto private coach bound for Itami International Airport.(B)
